This Tuesday, the prize palmarés have been announced, the laureate has said that he took "surprise" to the possibility of being a candidate and received the same prize.
The jury wanted to acknowledge the informative work that the Donostiarra has done throughout his career. The jury has highlighted that it has helped the different families of instruments to enter and locate in the European cultural environment and has recognised musical instruments "without prestige". Beltran has called the "caramel" prize.
Juan Mari Beltrán started his musical career as a clarinet and txistulari in Etxarri Aranatz as a child and took the next steps at Hernani Music School. In the 1960s, he began researching and spreading popular music.
The result is a collection that would be the germ of Oiartzun’s Soinuenea Popular Music Corner, composed of over 1,500 musical instruments and about 6,000 publications. The jury stressed that the Soinuenea collection is "one of the most solid and lasting works that have been carried out in the field of cultural transmission". Beltrán has acknowledged that the file has been "the stop of the route and the last stop" of the station.
