PSOE, pp and Vox again hinder the investigation of Juan Carlos de Borbón in Congress
- The PSOE, pp and Vox have rejected the request to set up a commission to investigate the alleged irregularities of the king emeritus of Spain, Juan Carlos de Borbón, and his accounts in Switzerland. It is the third time in March that this disaster has taken place in the Community of Madrid. The initiative, promoted by ERC, PNV, EH Bildu, Junts per Catalunya, Cup, BNG, Commitments and More Country, was approved at the Congress of Deputies.
The body of the Spanish Government chaired by Meritxell Batet has met in a telematic way to analyse and, in each case, qualify the initiatives presented in recent days by the parliamentary groups.
The request for clarification of the accounts of Juan Carlos de Borbón was registered on March 19, and has been rejected with the votes of PSOE, pp and Vox.
As in previous attempts, the three parties have based themselves on congressional lawyers’ reports and have argued that their admission to the proceedings is not appropriate, since the congress cannot control the king for inviolability of his office.
On 10 March, the Spanish Congress Bureau rejected two similar initiatives, one promoted by ERC and the Joint Group (Junts per Catalunya, More Country, Commitments and BNG), and another by Unidas Podemos and ERC.
Despite this resignation, ERC, PNV, EH Bildu, Junts per Catalunya, Cup, BNG and Compromís registered a new request for the Congress to open investigations into "alleged illegalities committed by members of the Royal House and their political, diplomatic and commercial effects on Saudi Arabia".
This petition came after it was known that Philip VI.ak had renounced his father's inheritance, after Juan Carlos de Borbón decided to withdraw the official amount he received so far, even after hearing the cries of ollas against the king's television message.
