This Thursday morning, the bases of the Joxe Mari Auzmendi scholarship, the mayor of Hernani Xabier Lertxundi, the education councilor Oier Agirresarobe, the daughter of Joxe Mari Auzmendi Izaro and Ainhoa Haspirotz of the pedagogical project Hik have been presented at the Hernani City Hall.

Joxe Mari Auzmendi (Azkarate, 1954 - Hernani, 2020) died in February last year. His trajectory revolves around Euskera and Basque culture, pedagogical improvement, the educating people and inclusion, and they have created an educational scholarship with his name, promoted by Hik Hasi and subsidised by the Hernani City Hall, "although he was not a great lover of recognition", explained in the presentation his daughter Izaro Auzmendi.

The scholarship is aimed at the educational community: educational centers, educational groups, groups of fathers and mothers, leisure groups, associations of the Basque Country, groups of agents of the people. It will last two courses and will be EUR 12,000. The jury will be composed of a representative of the Hernani City Hall and three education experts Hik Hasi, and the proposals will be sent until 1 October.

After spending much of her life in Hernani, the mayor of Hernani, Lertxundi, explained that the municipality and the municipality are "indebted" for their contributions to Auzmendi and that the best way to recognize it is to help him to continue the path traveled.

For his part, Mikel Agirrezabala, on behalf of Hik Hasi, stressed that Auzmendi was "a source that does not run out" and that this scholarship is a sign of it: "I understood education as a thread to sew a people, and it was always based on values," he explained in an interview at ETB. He has also thanked the family and the Hernani City Hall that this year Hik Hasi has been 25 years old; although they have not had many opportunities to celebrate during the school year, they have considered it "beautiful" to end up helping the educational community.
