Launch "Jauza" in Barakaldo, the home for homeless migrants
- Agharas, the association of Amazons living in Bizkaia, will open the doors of the "jauzi" reception centre since September, with the objective of temporarily receiving homeless migrants in Barakaldo.
Agharas, the association of the Amazigh population of Bizkaia, wants to take a step further in its solidarity work in the Vizcaina town of Barakaldo. According to the association, on the 15th day, an apartment will be opened to temporarily welcome migrants forced to live in the street. "We were not born for that, but in the last two years the reception of people has been one of the intervention areas in which the association has deployed more resources and efforts," they explained.
The host house will accommodate four persons at a time, who will be accommodated in stays of three months. Agharas President Ridouane Chakouch has stated that the association has been working for a month and a half to develop housing, and that the partners and volunteers of the association will manage it in a participatory manner. "We're interviewing foster care people. The aim is to be in a position to do so in a dignified way," said lehendakari. The objective of housing is also to work on the prevention of problems related to migration and the autonomy of users, taking into account educational and community participation criteria.
They have been a “leap.” It has joined the long list of solidarity initiatives that the Agharas association is developing in Barakaldo. Among others, there are Spanish and Basque classes, collection of blankets or distribution of dinners for homeless people and the expansion of assistance for administrative procedures. As they have warned, despite the services developed in recent years, “it is evident that they are not enough” for the reality of the city.
Although Jauzi Agharas has made use of his own resources, he has acknowledged that he will need the cooperation of the citizens in order to meet the costs of renting, water, electricity and community fees. That’s why the partnership has created the collaborative Jauz-Kide model to donate the amount of money that each year you want to support the project. In return, the helpers will receive a gift related to it and a memory in which the destination given to the money given will be detailed.
There will also be a similar figure for companies and associations, named Harrera Kide. In addition to financial support, such aid may also contribute to timely cooperation or specific services. As a counterpart, they will be assigned an identification badge. A voluntary support and maintenance group will also be set up to accompany the welcoming people.
