Kristau Eskola responds to the strike by calling for more money from the Basque Government
- The workers of the CAPV Concerted Centres have not renewed their agreement for ten years and according to the unions “accumulated losses of purchasing power already exceed 10%”.
The first strike day convened for this week at the CAV Social Initiative centres has been monitored more than 65%, according to the unions ELA, LAB, CCOO, UGT and STEILAS. More than 9,000 workers are called on to strike, around 70 per cent of the CAV's concerted centres. The unions have described the support received by the plant workers as "very broad".
Some 5,000 people demonstrated on Tuesday at noon in Bilbao to call for the updating of their collective agreement, which has already been withdrawn. There, employers Kristau Eskola and AICE-IZEI denounced that they have not responded to the demands of the workers.
Despite the fact that in recent days the employers have submitted two proposals, “they are still far from the demands contained in the minimum joint platform agreed by the unions”. In this sense, they have called on employers to “take responsibility for the working conditions of the workers, stop making proposals without content and respond to the demands of the workers”.
According to Kristau Eskola, “improving the last bid presented is going to be very difficult.” The employer’s director, Mikel Ormazabal, pointed out that “the workers’ demands can be understood, but funding is needed and what is received from the Basque Government is not enough”. It has therefore asked the Lakua Government to raise awareness that, in addition to the trade unions and employers, the system of “guaranteed” growth is in its hands.
