The Spanish Public Health Commission will meet on the afternoon of this Tuesday with technicians from the Ministry of Health and representatives of the autonomous communities to analyze the vaccination of Janssen. Seven European countries have banned this single dose vaccine because it has caused thrombosis, another six do so with an age limit and thirteen without an age limit, as is the case in Spain. Only those over the age of 50 and the wounded are included with Janssen.
The Public Health Commission decided on 11 May that the age limit for the vaccine should be between 50-59 years. It is used together with Moderna and Pfizer to complete the vaccination. In addition, Janssen is received by the most vulnerable groups: people with disabilities, autistic or with mental illness.
Janssen's vaccine has no age limit. However, it is not recommended for those who have a history of thrombocytopenia (low platelet count). The AstraZeneca vaccine, which uses the same technology, therefore has an age limit. But there are fewer cases of thrombosis with Janssen than with him: In Europe, 1.34 million vaccines have been implemented and only one case has been confirmed. That is why the European Medicines Agency has ensured that the vaccine is safe and that its benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
