After passing this Monday before the judge of the National Audience José de la Mata, the exiled Jaione Jauregi has been imprisoned this afternoon.
Since 2004, Belgium has denied Spain the extradition of Jauregi twice. The palace, located in Ghent, has been the scene of mobilizations in this city to protest the extradition of Garfio.
Jáuregui made the following statements to the Naiz media on Saturday: "The bombing of Gernika, the GAL -- all of that is archived, it's over. I'm not happy, but I'm going with dignity, excited and sad, but I'm looking forward to going ahead. I don't want there to be any more extradition, no one going through this. That is what I want and I will fight for it as much as I can.
In an interview with Gotzon Hermosilla in Berria, Jauregi reported the following: "The case against me was archived and reopened because Spanish justice does what it wants. That is why the Belgian justice rejected the request for extradition on the previous occasion, since this case had to be filed for a long time. In addition, ETA has been disappearing for years. Spain has something learned from this and takes the opportunity to find solutions". In the interview he told how his exile so far has been: "When I was a refugee in Ipar Euskal Herria, I had to leave because we got rid of the papers and at that time the GAL also forced us to run. From there I went to Mexico, and then I came to Belgium. Here the persecution has not ceased."
In the interview with Berria he denounced that his arrest has taken place in an irregular manner: "Supposedly, after the decision of the Court of Cassation, I was going to have an electronic bracelet and then decide when to extradite. But on Wednesday, a crowd of police officers came to my house, very aggressive and without an arrest warrant. They didn't let me talk to my lawyer, and they felt like they told me I had to go with them to wear my bracelet, but they took me to jail. I had surgery recently, and when I told them I was going to see the doctor, they said: 'Don't worry, in Spain there are better hospitals than here'.
At 19:30 a.m. there will be a demonstration in Lezo, which will begin in the plaza.
