The Italian President, Giuseppe Conte, announced on 28 March two measures that will affect the municipalities. The first is that the government advances to the municipalities 4,300 million euros from the "solidarity fund" that collects taxes in the country and then distributes funds to the municipalities to "give oxygen to the municipal budgets as soon as possible".
On the other hand, an additional EUR 400 million will be allocated to municipalities to distribute purchase vouchers to citizens: "From next week, city councils will be able to deliver these checks or distribute preferred products to those who need them. We will not leave anyone alone, especially in these times when the whole of society suffers, but when there are people who suffer the most," Conte said.
He called producers and food vendors to shoppers using these bonds and encouraged them to make a 10 percent reduction.
The distribution of the 400 million euros will take into account the number of inhabitants of the villages, but also the socio-economic conditions, according to the Minister of Economy Roberto Gualtieri.
