Itaia has today held a press conference in Bilbao to denounce the “normalization” of the Machian aggressions, the impunity and the extension of the Machian speeches. The network has pointed out that all this is "a big step backwards" and has described the situation in which they find themselves as "worrying". In a press conference, members of Itaia explained that the Machian aggressions that have occurred in recent times in the Basque Country "are becoming numbers" and that society "has normalized" all these attacks, and have argued that in this way the fight against machismo "has been decreasing".
“In addition, there are those who still look the other way in front of machismo or directly deny the existence of machismo. We're sick. Reality clearly reflects the presence of machismo in our society. Denying it means turning a blind eye to the women who suffer the aggressions. And, in addition, it reinforces the impunity of the aggressors,” they have assured.
The socialist women's organization has denounced that the far-right sectors "consciously deny" violence against women and that they use machismo to "disseminate racist discourses" and to "demand exclusionary policies". In this way, Itaia explained that right-wing parties seek to "solve insecurity through police forces and legal complaints", and the group today warned that "the number of aggressors in the police is worrying". Thus, the members of the group have pointed out that in the last month an agent of the Municipal Police of Bilbao was arrested for assaulting his partner.
First of all, they explained that the answer is "urgent" and that it is "necessary" to raise awareness throughout society. Two applications are presented. First, to deal with the machista discourse that has spread in the media, and second, to fight against the impunity of the aggressors to “not become accomplices” and that women have the social support they need.
The members of Itaia have today stressed in Bilbao that “the strengthening of awareness and involvement of all” is fundamental to the fight against the normalization of male violence and that “we are all agents to respond to male assaults”. In this context, the members of the Advisory Council on Victims and Human Rights have reiterated their willingness to strengthen the fight against the Machian aggressions and have called upon them to join and organize themselves to “take the streets against the Machista violence”.

The case of Gisèle Pélicot shows a problem that goes beyond rape: the complicity of men in the face of male violence. What is worrying is not only aggression, but the silence of the men who, knowing what happened, decided not to denounce the situation. This pact of silence,... [+]
The case of Mazan is mentioned in the French media: a woman drowned with sleeping pills by her husband to put her between the legs of other men to be raped. That for ten years and three numbers: 92 violations (at least), 72 men and 51 trial violators. Gisèle Pélicot, 72, did... [+]
