According to Eguzki, a neighbor has found several dead fish on the banks of the Oria River, at the height of Lasarte-Oria, “between the Hippodrome Bridge and the sports facilities of Michelín”. The members of the environmental movement have approached the site and identified a concrete tube as the possible origin of the discharge: “We have seen clearly that the wastewater in this canal ran what seems and how the river flow is relatively small, instead of dispersing in the river, they accumulated in an area of the shore.” In case his views were correct, Eguzki explained that the root of the problem would be sanitation. They denounce that the administrations do not pay the necessary attention to sanitation work and stress its importance: “Some works are necessary, but sanitation works are essential.”
Activists have called the emergency phone, and URA inspectors have approached the area to inform them. In addition, they have called on the public to denounce the discharges, contacting Eguzki via the 112 contact telephone.
This weekend is the seventh spill that Eguzki denounced in August at the CAV. Pollutant discharges have previously been made known in Mutriku (Gipuzkoa), Ondarroa, Gernika (Bizkaia), Iruña de Oca, Apodaka (Álava) and Zestoa (Gipuzkoa). “We regret that it is not the last,” explains Eguzki. According to the environmental group, several companies take advantage of summer holidays to do "cleaning" and, on the other hand, the reduced flow of rivers makes polluting spills spectacular than usual.
The City Hall of Donostia-San Sebastián announced at last Thursday’s plenary session that it will increase the waste rate by 26.5% from January 2025, claiming that Waste Law 7/2022 obliges this. Eguzki, for its part, has denounced that the law only applies in terms of costs,... [+]
