Following this new bombing, the Israeli army has declared that it has attacked Hamas' positions in response to a rocket launched by this group and to a tunnel entering tens of metres into Israeli territory, to which Israel has described as an "attempt at civil intimidation".
"In response to the launch of a rocket from Gaza to Israel, one of our planes has reached an underground infrastructure of HAMAS," said Israeli Army spokesman Hedi Zilberman. Furthermore, Zilberman has stated that the tunnel has not crossed the underground barrier, nor has it endangered any people near the area.
He also stressed that the authorities are investigating which group has been behind the tunnel construction but, as usual, has accused Hamas of this action: "In the coming days we will continue to work towards the deactivation of the tunnel that blatantly breaks Israel's sovereignty."
