The conflict between Israel and Palestine has escalated over the weekend and left hundreds dead, more than a thousand if the two sides come together. On Saturday morning Sixteen attacked “unprecedented” and surprised Israeli forces. Entrepreneurs launched 5,000 rockets, attacked by land, air and sea, and dozens of militiamen managed to cross the border at 50 points and take control of some villages. It is Sixteen's biggest attack on Israel and Islamic Jihad, the second largest armed group in Gaza, has joined the attack. They report that they have attacked the "crimes of occupation", the "permanent desecration" against the Al Aqsa mosque and the aggressions that Israeli settlers have exacerbated this year against the Palestinians.
Sixteen has confirmed the kidnapping of several Israeli military and civilians and the high office, Saleh al Arourim, has warned that the kidnappings will serve to free all Palestinian prisoners, many of them on hunger strike, among others. At least 700 Israelis killed and 2,245 wounded, according to the latest official data.
Israel responds to the bombing of Gaza and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war: “They will pay a price never seen.” Israel has been bombing Gaza since Saturday, with at least 413 Palestinians killed and 2,300 wounded, according to the latest data from local health sources.
The Foreign Minister of the Palestinian National Power, Riad al Maliki, has requested international support: “Don’t let all Palestinians in Gaza be killed.” He complains that the international authorities have so far ignored the human rights violations caused by Israel in Gaza and the West Bank.
The experts envisage a long duration of the armed conflict. The majority of the population of Gaza is fortified at home and at least 20,000 people have moved to protect themselves from the bombings.
