The UN Office of Human Rights has published a report denouncing the chemical weapon attack on the population of Gaza. Although white phosphorus is not prohibited under international law, its use against the civilian population is prohibited.
The report published on 8 November analyzes the months between November 2023 and April 2024. During these six months, nine white phosphorus attacks have been identified in the centre of the Gaza Strip, six in the capital of Gaza and three in Khan Younis, some of them in refugee areas.
This is not the first time the use of white phosphorus has been denounced, as in 2012 the Health Minister of the Gaza Front also denounced the use of the same product.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has explained that white phosphorus suddenly becomes inflamed when it comes into contact with oxygen and is very difficult to turn off. In addition, it tends to stick to the skin and clothing and causes “deep and severe” burns, penetrating to the bones.
The report, disseminated by the UN, also reports on the possible use of artificial intelligence to identify war objectives. He has denounced that the technology used in Gaza does not distinguish between civilians and military, but only serves to distinguish whether a person is a man or a woman or not.
The UN has denounced that attacks on civilians have spread on a massive scale and has argued that the murder of at least 16,000 minors or the constant attack on homes and hospitals are a reflection of this.
In the past 24 hours, the Israeli Army has killed at least 50 Palestinians and wounded 160 of them in Gaza. According to a report published this Sunday by the Gaza Ministry of Health, Israel has committed three massacres this weekend against several families in the Gaza Strip.
In the investigation, it has indicated that around 10,000 people are still trapped in rubble and on the roads, as the Civil Defence rescue services cannot intervene. The Ministry recalls that this data is a mere approximation, since it is not possible to accurately estimate the number of people who continue to be under rubble from the bombings.
Following the weekend data collection, a total of 43,603 Palestinians have been killed. 70 per cent of the deaths are women and children, according to sources from the HAMAS Government, which has recorded 29,276 people. In addition, he has warned that about 3,500 children are at risk of malnutrition, according to the Department of Health.
