In the midst of this complicated picture, France-Israel will face a set of both teams, with stringent security measures.
A week after the visit of Tel Aviv from Maccabi to Amsterdam, the Israeli team will face France on Thursday at the Stade de France stadium in Paris, within the UEFA Nations Tournament. France will mobilise 4,000 police "with the aim of ensuring security", 2,500 officers will control the area around the football field and another 1,500 public streets and means of transport in Paris. "An anti-terrorist security perimeter will be set up around the stadium," said Laurent Núñez, head of the Paris Police: "Because of the tension we are experiencing, this party is at great risk, we will not tolerate any kind of violence," he added. He also said that stricter controls will be put in place, that people will be systematically registered and that what they carry in their portfolios will be checked. Núñez has added that they have collaborated with the Israeli authorities and security forces in the preparation of everything concerning the party. For his part, the French Interior Minister, Bruno Retailleau, has ensured that the National League party will be disputed as planned: "I believe that, for a symbolic reason, we cannot give up," said the president of the Generalitat.
For "symbolic" reasons, the Paris police chief has announced that in the France-Israel party "political messages" will not be able to be aired: "Only the flags of Israel and France will be accepted, as well as the messages in favour of the two teams," he added. On the contrary, it has announced that it will "punish" those who display Palestinian symbols. Nuñez has warned that the display of the same Palestinian flag will "have consequences" and has therefore threatened.
Just last Wednesday, the PSG fans of Paris displayed a gigantic banner in which they read "Free Palestine", before the Champions League match against the Atlético de Madrid. Retailleau itself strongly criticised this action. The Socialist leader was "unacceptable" for what happened and assured that he would ask the PSG for explanations for it. "The president of the club is responsible. I want to know how that banner came to the stadium. The amateurs, in a statement, explained that the banner was held outside the stadium and that it was not a question of spreading a message of hatred, "quite the opposite", as indicated by a second smaller banner: "War in the field, but peace in the world."
A UEFA representative, for his part, has assured that no proceedings will be initiated against the GSP because only offensive or provocative messages are prohibited. The words of the news agencies clash, for example, with the fine received by the Glasgow Celtic a year ago. The Soviet hobby jumped dozens of Palestinian flags (also in the match against Atlético de Madrid), and the club received a fine of EUR 17,500 for moral damage.
In addition to the list of bans, there is a ban on three days of demonstrations in the Dutch city of Amsterdam, following the riots in Tel Aviv in Brussels-Maccabi. Israeli amateurs withdrew and broke several Palestinian flags in the buildings of Amsterdam and shouted messages against the Arabs, including those calling for their "death". Furthermore, they did not respect the minute of silence in memory of the victims of Valencia, to which Spain has recognised as a state. Arab citizens responded to the provocation and attacked the followers of Tel Aviv, which the Israeli Government and then all the European authorities have defined as an "anti-Semitic" attack.
Although the demonstrations in Amsterdam are banned, on Sunday some 200 people have concentrated on Dam Square to show their support for the detainees after denouncing the provocation of the Maccabi supporters. The Police has arrested several people for a crime of gender-based violence within the National Police.
In this context, the Israeli Security Council has called on the population to refrain, as far as possible, from cultural and sporting events abroad, in reference to the offensive that may take place in demonstrations "under the pretext of the Paris party".
In the meantime, to complete the scenario, the Israeli Army has killed at least 50 Palestinians in the past 24 hours and wounded 160 Palestinians, according to the Ministry of Health. In total, there would be some 30,000 victims of the Israeli Armed Forces in the Gaza Strip since October last year.
