The municipal government team of Navarra Suma, with the support of the PSN, decided two weeks ago to create a public company for the management of the home care service. It is currently managed directly by the City Council, following the decision taken in the previous legislature. Delegated councillor for Social Services, Social Action and Sport, María Caballero (na+), explained that the change has been made to "improve" the service.
It would appear that the change in management would not have to affect the service, but in practice it is the first step towards privatisation, workers say. As explained, Navarra Suma and the PSN agree that direct management is very expensive, so it is now expected that their rights and working conditions will be reduced in order to reduce costs.
Faced with this, they have decided to strike, knowing that the people who receive the service will suffer damage, but will protest for them, because the worsening of the service is detrimental to the people who receive it. The next stops will be on 11 and 17 May.
