The Solidarity Network of Ipar Euskal Herria has been launched at the initiative of several young people. The network has been created with the aim of supporting sectors that have been affected by the political and economic offensive, "from surveillance and solidarity". For the time being, they have appealed to "workers who have suffered an unfair situation in their work" to report on their experiences, as well as to people who need help in shopping, to have "serious economic difficulties" or to have "an extreme situation at home".
The local networks are already in operation in the Basque areas of Arberoa and Garazi, as well as in the localities of Hendaia, Baiona, Bidarrai and Itsasu. At the moment, the email address iehsarea@gmail.com is available to those who want to contact, and Facebook and Instagram accounts are also available to those who need it. These accounts shall inform the members of the network of the measures taken and the testimonies received.
On the other hand, the Solidarity Network of Ipar Euskal Herria has also made a reflection on the conjuncture generated by the expansion of the coronavirus. Through a statement, they have called for clarification of the causes, dimensions and effects of the Covid-19 epidemic, because they understand the appearance of the coronavirus as "a consequence of the functioning of this productive model", regardless of the laws of nature. Thus, they have highlighted the lack of capacity of the members of the working class to know the truth, because "information is not in their hands", but in the hands of the bourgeois class that controls the capitalist model.
In addition, the lack of rupture of production and the process of accumulation, as well as the affirmation of the economic interests of the bourgeoisie, play a priority role for the health or needs of the workers. They are forcing workers to go to work, even in non-essential economic activities. Thus, the Solidarity Network has claimed to "put health above economic interests", referring to the "universal principle of health".
The members of the network have also denounced that the emergency measures have also led to the dissolution of political freedoms. "From one day to the next (...) we cannot leave the house, we cannot organize, we are surrounded by gendarmes and police and the calls to sacrifice and to the unit of France fill our ears," they say. They have therefore called for the guarantee of political freedoms.
Finally, against the "economic and political offensive", they have called for "self-organization" because "the only solution is to organize on the basis of other principles", over and above "capitalist and individualistic economic interests".
