The multinational H&M announced in April that it will close nearly 30 shops of its property in the Spanish state and that, through a dossier, it would clear several employees from clothing stores. Specifically, in Hego Euskal Herria, the company intends to mobilize 56 workers, so the workers have started an indefinite strike before the protest.
However, H&M has not been the only company that has promoted online sales and announced the closure of retail stores. Inditex's aim is that a quarter of the sales are made online, which has a direct impact on the staff of the clothing stores owned by Inditex. Among the shops of Inditex are Zara, Oysho, Stradivarius or Bershka.
At the end of last year, Inditex stated that its intention is to close 20 establishments in Hego Euskal Herria, so there would be 66 workers at risk of dismissal. According to Berria, this list has been expanded with the closure of Stradivarius in Eibar (Gipuzkoa) and Zara Home in Garbera (Donostia-San Sebastián, Gipuzkoa). Thus, nine workers would be affected by the redundancies in Eibar and four in Garbera, and a total of 79 workers at risk of dismissal in Hegoalde.
