The Government of Navarra will subsidize orphans for male violence
- The grants will be compatible with the orphan pension, as announced by the Minister of Presidency and Equality, Félix Taberna, in the Foral Parliament. Complaints related to gender violence increased this year by 21% compared to 2022.
Each day in Navarra more than six complaints related to gender violence, 1,517 in total from January 2023 to August 31. This represents a 21% increase over the same period of 2022 due to “increased awareness and social awareness”, according to Félix Taberna, first vice-president, Minister of Presidency and Equality.
As he pointed out in the Foral Parliament, his working group will continue to work in this direction and in 2024 people who have been orphaned by male violence will receive extraordinary “immediate and manageable” financial support. This is in response to an interpellation by EH Bildu in the government's full control. The bar clarifies that this new benefit will be compatible with the orphan pension.
She also points out that the Center for Integral Attention to Sexual Violence is being "launched". This new service will always be open, even during nights and holidays. Because "the institutions have an obligation to provide a comprehensive response to violence against women, strengthening the protection and security of victims and their children", Taberna stressed.
In this regard, it has announced the creation of a "one-stop shop" for accreditations of victims of violence against women at the Navarro Institute for Equality. Until now, the Institute met the criteria for access to protected housing, with the remaining services being provided by the Office for the Care of Victims of Crime under the Ministry of Justice. The new organization allows “more benefits, aids and resources”, Taberna stresses.
According to information provided by the counsellor, in August there were 198 complaints in the Foral Community about violence against women. More than half, 56%, due to physical violence, 13% due to psychological violence, 17% due to violation of the protective order and 14% due to sexual violence.
