The cases of male violence that have emerged in recent days in Zarautz (Gipuzkoa) and Tolosa (Gipuzkoa) have led to the population fading. Proof of this are the protests made on Tuesday afternoon. In Zarautz a mass demonstration has been held from the town hall square, responding to the Machita Violence. Under the motto Self-defense feminist and also in Tolosa, concentrations have been conducted to condemn the two sexual assaults suffered in the municipality: one in the Plaza Vieja, called by the Town Hall of Tolosa, and another in the Plaza del Triangle, by the hand of Itaia de Tolosaldea.
The Basque Government Department of Security announced the case of Zarautz and reported that last Thursday a man accused of sexual assault was arrested. One day later he was taken to the judge, but the investigation remains open.
According to Zarauzko Hitza, the World March of Women of Euskal Herria, Bilgune Feminista de Zarautz and the Morroxka group stated in the manifesto read at the end of the demonstration that “it is necessary to put the issue of prevention of sexist violence at the forefront and have asked the agents, administrations and associations to “take responsibility”.
In Tolosa, on 21 January, the alleged aggressor accused two women of sexual assault in an osteopathy clinic was arrested. One of the attacks happened a few years ago and the other recently. Apparently, the man initially gave them a massage in the areas of the back, neck or lumbar area, subsequently reaching intimate areas without permission.
Following the statement before the judge of the Court of Tolosa, the alleged aggressor has been released, but the investigation remains open, as official sources estimate that there may be more people affected. They therefore advise the victims to report at the Oria police station.
The City of Tolosa has pointed out that male violence “permeates all areas of our lives” in the final act of the concentration and that the goal is to end all of them: “We want to build a people without sexist violence.” This has been pointed out by the Tolosaldea portal.
At the meeting held by Tolosaldea Itaia, it is considered necessary to disseminate “effective” responses to any attack on working women: “It is clear to us that it is essential to point out those who carry out the aggressions, as well as to address the development of economic and social resources so that women are free from this situation.” They state that Itaia is committed to this path.
