The collective Estados Generales de Migraciones (General States of Migrations) will hold a session in the Basque Country tomorrow at the Estia engineering school in Bidart. The organizers denounce the intentions of the government of Emmanuel Macron.

The new law has two aims: “Facilitate” the removal of the “undocumented” and “speed up” the pace of asylum applications.

But with the immigrants the collective has seen the opposite intention: “The law will promote the distinction between good and bad immigrants and facilitate the rapid expulsion of immigrants.”

The Estados Generales de Migraciones initiative brings together 470 associations and agents in France. At this Kari, in the North Basque Country, the topic will be discussed at the Estia engineering school in Bidart (Lapurdi).

“The goal is to involve multiple people, associations, agents, even citizens, including immigrants,” says LAB member Argitxu Dufau

The main purpose of the Bidart session is to make a diagnosis about the situation of immigrants.

For Eve Navarro, of the collective with immigrants, “we have to show the French government that the proposal of citizens and civil society is strong, as well as that there are alternative practices to implement new policies.”

The summary of the discussions of the General States of the Basque Country will be forwarded to the French coordination group, which will hold a general meeting at the end of May and will decide how further action will be taken.
