On Monday began the course 2020-2021 in eleven children's schools of the City of Pamplona. The course has begun marked by the coronavirus, so specific contingency plans have been established at each school. According to yesterday's data, 845 children aged 0-3 are enrolled for the new course.

The first days will begin the boys and girls who were already enrolled the previous year and know the school. On 1 September, the new boys and girls registered in the admission process will begin in June and July. In total, municipal children's schools offer 964 places (848 in total and 116 in half-stay), of which 547 were offered free places in the enrollment phase. These 845 registered children will be progressively joined by the children who are going to enter the existing waiting lists.

The Autonomous Agency of Children's Schools of the City of Pamplona has developed a model of Contingency Plan for Prevention and Organization. The document will be adapted according to the evolution of the COVID-19 crisis.

Coordinated measures

The aim of the Plan is to ensure the security of the educational community by reducing the risks as far as possible. Therefore, in addition to the provisions of the Departments of Education and Health of the Government of Navarra, the City Council and the Autonomous Body have established other complementary measures to strengthen security.

Among these measures are the marking of school areas and spaces, the measurement of the temperature of children and workers according to the protocol of the Service for the Prevention of Occupational Risks of the City of Pamplona, the special cleaning plans, the periodic serological tests and, if necessary, the execution of PCR to the staff of the Children's Schools (these tests have been carried out since the reopening of the centers at the end of June) and the progressive beginning of the course.

Struggle for education in Basque

In the months prior to the school year, the parents of Pamplona have denounced the lack of supply in Euskera in the municipal children's schools, after the reduction imposed by the City Council. Precisely because of this, the HE Gurasoak platform launched a campaign to try to alleviate these deficiencies with the aim of establishing a popular children's school.

However, because there were not enough children and funding to ensure their village status, they had to abandon the project. They warned that "the struggle" is not over and that new lines of work and proposals are being worked on "to ensure a quality and public education in Basque".
