Araba’s LGTBI+ phobia observatory has detected 15 attacks on the collective in the last three months: seven hate speeches, four physical attacks and four cases of exclusion. In addition, in the entire Basque Country there have been four women murdered by male violence so far this year. The organization, the Vitoria-Gasteiz Feminist Movement and Coordinator E28 have denounced the increase in gender violence and LGTBI+ phobic violence in the demonstration on Wednesday.
“We are facing an increase in the discourses of aggression and hatred. In cases of machismo, racism and transphobia,” the organizers said. In his opinion, these attacks are not isolated events, but a structural problem: anti-collective ideas are “facilitators and legitimizers of fascism” and “they are winning in the streets, in the media and in the parliaments”. Attendees have explained that to end the attacks it is necessary to eradicate LGTBI+ phobic and cysheterosexist thinking.
To this end, they stressed the importance of promoting an “inclusive feminism”. As they have explained, the violent system that promotes violence against women affects "all" women in society. They have added that, leaving behind the “essentialist discourses”, they have to face this structure together, promoting common actions between the feminist movement and the community of sexual dissent.
The organizers met this Wednesday in Vitoria-Gasteiz on the occasion of the aggression that took place on Sunday night in the Abetxuko district. During the weekend, a man had threatened with a knife a transsexual woman he had assaulted and raped. The aggressor escaped, and the woman filed a complaint with the Ertzaintza, who was arrested.
A similar attack took place on 22 July. A 64-year-old woman left a bar in the old part of Vitoria-Gasteiz and a man called it "dirty maricona", according to the Basque Department of Security. The aggressor punched him three punches and threw him to the ground.
That was said to me by the former student, who took a long time to file a complaint that was in court months and who, on the recommendation of the psychologist, had withdrawn the complaint of rape. And I kept quiet, unable to guess what to tell the young man that he still had... [+]
Despite all calls and campaigns, laws, standards, plans and budgets, protective mechanisms and punitive machines, hard cases and evil behaviors continue to fill information, both drip and chaparron, protest actions, demonstrations and statements (and other expressions in a low... [+]
The case of Gisèle Pélicot shows a problem that goes beyond rape: the complicity of men in the face of male violence. What is worrying is not only aggression, but the silence of the men who, knowing what happened, decided not to denounce the situation. This pact of silence,... [+]
The case of Mazan is mentioned in the French media: a woman drowned with sleeping pills by her husband to put her between the legs of other men to be raped. That for ten years and three numbers: 92 violations (at least), 72 men and 51 trial violators. Gisèle Pélicot, 72, did... [+]
