Deaths have increased by 42.9% compared to data from the first ten months of last year. Twenty-one deaths were recorded in 2017 and this year thirty. In particular, 18 workers have died in Bizkaia, seven in Gipuzkoa and five in Álava. These data were published yesterday by Osalan, the association that analyzes safety and health at work in the Basque Country and Navarre.
However, there is one fact that has come down. Between January and October of this year, three people have died on their way to work in their homes and seven last year. For its part, the number of casualties due to illness or accidents at work has risen to 29,965, 2.7% more than in the same period of 2017.
Osalan CEO Alberto Alonso was not satisfied with the results: “Temporality does not help, that is obvious, and we have to deal with this precarious work,” he explained. To this end, he stressed that Osalan's work is "fundamental" and that every occupational accident is "a failure" for them.
