Since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, 28,000 jobs and 31,000 contributors have been lost in Hego Euskal Herria, according to data from Lanbide of the CAV and Lansare of Navarra. They're the worst data ever. And thanks to the ERTE, the figures have not suffered a greater decrease, since on 30 April the number of workers in Hego Euskal Herria was in 187,737.
By territory, Bizkaia has been the most unemployed from one month to the next: The number of unemployed was 78,061, 5,393 more than in March and 11,772 more than in the same month of the previous year. This represents an increase of 7.42% over the month of March.
But Álava has had the highest proportion: The number of unemployed stands at 23,403, of which 1,955 are only in April and 4,290 more than in April last year. In April, the number of unemployed rose by 9.12%, the highest number in Hego Euskal Herria.
In Gipuzkoa, 37,179 unemployed were counted, of which 3,082 were added in April (+9.04%), 6,937 more than in April last year. In Navarre, of the 40,442 unemployed, 3,077 (+8.23%) occurred in April, 7,861 more than a year ago.
Among the people who have suffered the most from unemployment are women, with 98,784 unemployed women and 80,301 men, the service sector being the one that has suffered the most.
With the rise in unemployment there has also been a decline in new contracts: In Hego Euskal Herria, 39,651 contracts were signed in April, 41,249 fewer than in March and 54,790 fewer than in the same period of the previous year.
