The City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz and the Basque Government have reached an agreement to allocate municipal housing to the demand for rent social.Para, more than 40 empty homes will be rehabilitated in Bustaldea (Aretxabaleta) and other neighborhoods of the city, mainly for fencing venes.Alokabide and Ensanche 21 will form a working group to analyse which dwellings can be accommodated.
The City Council has proposed to the Basque Government that it make vacant housing available to public administrations for use in housing programs for young people. Mayor Gorka Uraran explained that "as a result of the housing policy promoted at the time, the City Hall has several empty and precarious housing units. This initiative will take advantage of these homes and prevent illegal occupations."
