Applikat started his career in January and two months later the coronavirus crisis completely surprised them: “We had two options: close and apply the ERTE or look for new ways to continue working,” says Joselu Cia, a project member. The second opportunity was imposed and they decided to dedicate their work to one of the sectors most affected by the coronavirus crisis: To the small Navarros producers.
Applikat developed online stores, applications and the like, so its activity has been to create an application to help producers. “Ekolocal is an initiative to promote local producers, an application that serves as a showcase for Navarran producers and allows people to get in touch directly with them,” explains Cia. Initially, Navarros producers were contacted and invited to participate in this initiative, which has already brought together 45 producers throughout the territory.
Navarre has been divided into five counties: Mendi197-Pamplona, Tierra Estella, Pirineo-Sangüesa, Zona Media and Ribera. Producers have a sufficient offer to fill the shopping cart: meat, dairy, eggs, fresh vegetables, honey, wines, chocolate and sweets... “We’ve gotten used to going to supermarkets and big stores, and many times we don’t know which producers we have around.”
The Ekolocal app has come to stay. The intention of the developers is to continue to call the new producers. “We want it to be an active application, for example now producers are uploading videos explaining their production.” All the information and the possibility of downloading the application is available on the web Ekolocal.es.
