On charges of homicide, the examining magistrate of the Court of Violence against Women No. 2 of the Court of Agoiz has demanded that the husband of the murdered Island woman be imprisoned without guarantees. MagistrateK has relied on the forensic investigation at the time of the decision, and in his own words “the evidence shows that the defendant had a tough argument with his wife and punched her in the body and head several times until she was unconscious.”
The same investigation, which was decisive in making the decision, indicates that the Island Municipal Police have previously arrested the man twice for ill-treatment of the woman.
As the defendant is a truck driver, concluding that his ability to escape is “obvious” and that he can try to destroy the evidence, the judge imposes a pretrial detention pending the clarification of the matter. If it is confirmed that the murder was macho, this year it would be the fifth woman killed by the macho violence in the Basque Country. The Women’s World March in the Basque Country has already done so.
The Island Council and the feminist movement have called for mobilizations for Wednesday. The City Council will hold a rally at 1:00 p.m. in the Municipal Plaza of the Island and feminist movements at 7:30 p.m. in the same square. In the latter case, the woman is said to have been “killed.”
The Women’s World March in the Basque Country has also called for mobilizations in San Sebastian, Vitoria and Bilbao. In Donostia/San Sebastián at 7:30 p.m. they call for a meeting on the Boulevard, in Vitoria-Gasteiz at 8:00 p.m. in the Plaza de Andra Mari Blanca, and in Bilbao at 8:00 p.m. in Arriaga.
It is possible that as the day progresses, more calls will be opened in different parts of the Basque Country.
