The presentation was attended by Roberto Otazu and Hernani, President of the Association Meji and Councilor of Leintz-Salinas, municipal representatives of Usurbil, Berastegi, Segura, Donemiliaga, Berriatua, Antzuola, Zaldibia and Oiartzun. All of them are pioneering municipalities in the Basque Country in waste management, some of which have taken selective collection, recycling and composting in Gipuzkoa with Ate Ate to a level not seen in these areas until then; Donemiliaga has been showing the way from Álava for years, especially at the composting level; and Berriatua and Harvesto are pioneers in Bizkaia.
Hobart’s representatives said: “Today few people in the Basque Country question the proper management of waste. Citizens and local authorities must act responsibly and responsibly. There is a lack of communication and experience and/or exchange of views between them and the MEJI association has been created for this purpose: So that the work that each municipality does is known by the other municipalities and that initiatives and good practices with direct consequences are shared among all."
The Meji association, which intends to expand to more municipalities in the Basque Country, has compiled in this decalogue the requirements that must be met for the sustainable and responsible management of waste.
