The French Senate takes a step in favour of minority languages
- On 10 December, the bill to protect 'regional languages' was voted and passed in the French Senate. In February, the National Assembly, for its part, delved into the content. On the contrary, the amendments of several senators have made the proposed law stronger. The final decision will be taken by the National Assembly on 8 April at the plenary session of Parliament.
In the news, gathered by the media Kazeta.eus, Breton Deputy Paul Molac has voted and passed in the Senate a bill to 'protect and promote regional languages'. On 13 February, the National Assembly rejected seven of the nine articles containing the text.
The first amendment tabled by several senators concerns the certification of the financial endowment of the schools that have implemented the immersion model. There is SEASKA in this situation. Through the second amendment, the French State would be obliged to extend the offer of language teaching in French territory.
