Ecologist group Eguzki calls for "use according to history" for Lemoiz's power plant
- The Basque Government of Daborde has in its possession the ground on which the future Lemoiz nuclear power plant will be built, and Eguzki has expressed doubts about its future. The environmental group has called for the use given to it to be made public and for it to be added to the recovery of the waters. In the farm that is often talked about, Eguzki says that for the time being there is no project, "but an idea", and that in any case that nursery would only occupy a small part of the field of the plant.
Eguzki regretted that Iberdrola was "totally free" to restore the area during the process of change of plant owners. They have therefore denounced that this responsibility has been left to the Basque Government. "We still don't know what the future of the Lemoiz power plant is going to be, but we also know that Iberdrola has been a winner," they said, "because of the nuclear moratorium, the Administration allowed the company to collect 3.256 million more than it needed from citizens through bills of light, and now has freed it from the responsibility of adapting the environment."
As for the future of space, Eguzki believes that the Basque Government "has no project, as acknowledged by the Minister of Industry, Arantza Tapia, in the Parliament". Ecologists affirm that fish farming, to which reference has been made many times, is an idea based on a study that "considers two options, one of 4 hectares and the other of 5.5". However, they pointed out that the total area of the plant is 35 hectares. "Therefore, regardless of whether or not the farm is built, it will be necessary to do recovery or refurbishment work in that area, and the money to pay for it will come out of the pocket of the Basque Government, out of our pockets."
They call for "use according to history" for Lemoiz's power plant, "perhaps a public park as a memorial place." In any case, they indicate that the use should be public and compatible with the restoration. "In any case, that the decision is not one-sided, but the result of the greatest possible social consensus," added Iñigo Urkullu's executive.
