Joseba Frontera, a political prisoner in Ugao, returned to Basauri prison on Thursday after the third grade withdrawal. The prosecutor who appealed against the third grade granted by the Basque Government must be present until the Court of Prison Supervision decides the appeal. He has spent 20 years in jail, a 64-year-old prisoner. In 2019, he served three-quarters of the sentence.
Sare has expressed her discomfort and stressed that they “only hinder” the shorter prison trajectory of political prisoners. Since the Basque Government assumed prison jurisdiction, the third grade has been recognized to 42 political prisoners, of whom the Public Prosecutor’s Office has appealed against 29.
To denounce the situation, on 9 June at 20:00 hours Sara called a demonstration in the town square of Ugao.
