Lebanese Hezbollah has launched nearly 250 rockets and missiles against northern Israel, in response to the death on Wednesday of a Zionist commander. Following the death of Hezbollah commander Muhammad Nimah Nasser, Hezbollah has attacked dozens of people for two consecutive days. This week’s attacks have been one of the strongest of these months.
Dozens of rockets and explosive drones have been sent against several military bases in northern Israel and over the occupied Golan to Syria. However, most of them have been affected by the Zionists’ air defence system. At least one military vehicle from the Israeli Army has been hit by rockets, while several Zionist soldiers have been seriously injured. Several attacks have caused fires in different parts of northern Israel. The Israeli Army has also ensured that 'shooting stations' have been hit in southern Lebanon.
Nasser is the third high-level military command killed by the Zionists in nine months, the second in less than a month. Since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza there have been continuous attacks on the border between Lebanon and Israel, according to the same sources. In Lebanon, sources from Al Yazira have pointed out that villages located in a five-kilometre border area are destroyed and that more than 90,000 people have been forced to flee.
It is not clear when the conflict is going to end, or whether it is going to end. Hezbollah has stated that it will only stop launching attacks on Israel when the cease-fire that the Palestinian resistance in Gaza is agreed upon in Gaza. According to the latest data, Zionists have so far killed 496 people in Lebanon, which is at least 95 civilians. According to the Israeli authorities, the Hezbollah attacks have resulted in the death of at least 15 soldiers and 11 Israeli civilians.
Fear of a total war
At the international level, many leaders have expressed concern about the consequences of this increase in tension, as well as the UN, for the possibility of a total war between Hezbollah and Israel. Al Jazeera journalist Hori Khodr has said that similar increases have already been seen before and that the situation has been relaxed again in a few days. However, at least the two sides are opening up the possibility of war.
In recent weeks, the leaders of the United States, Europe and many Arab countries have begun an attempt at diplomatic détente which has not been completed. A political analyst from Beirut, Rami Khouri, told Al Yazira that “although Netanyahu continues to play the war drums, his army is not prepared to open a second front.” Netanyahu has said in recent weeks that they are going to destroy Hezbollah and go to war, but they have no capacity to do so “while they are still fighting in Gaza.”
Several sources have warned that the conflict with Hezbollah could spread throughout the region if a total war began. The United States has publicly expressed its support for Israel in the fight against Hezbollah, and it is expected that the Chií Militia will be able to count on Iran’s help, although it has not been officially declared.
