South Korea has passed the pandemic without decreeing a lockdown. The Government decided to conduct massive tests to control the pandemic. Although it was initially the country with the most infections in the world, the pandemic has left over 10,900 infections and 256 deaths in the country. That is, five deaths per million inhabitants.
However, the new outbreak in Seoul has leaked all the alarms and forced the Government to close the city's premises. Of the 34 confirmed cases, eight are of foreign origin and 26 of foreign origin. Most of them have taken place in the Itaewon district of Seoul (Gipuzkoa). In total, there have been about 40 infections in this neighborhood.
The number of cases is not high, nor is it sufficient to collapse the health system; but South Korea has taken a turn from the above data. In fact, since 9 April, no data has been recorded as high as last week, when fewer than ten new cases were recorded in three days.
The issue of bars
The first contagion in the Itaewon neighborhood was positive on May 6. The man, who had been in five clubs in that neighborhood, has been followed by another 40 positive cases, all in the same bars or members of his family or friends.
According to estimates from bars, about 5,517 people went to the five clubs where the hearing took place. Thus, the government has asked the people who have been in those bars to put themselves in the isolation of the cars and run tests. To date, more than 2,405 people have been identified worldwide.
However, it will not be an easy task to identify all the attendees, as these are premises associated with the LGTBIQ+ community, and in the country there is a great stigma towards the collective. In particular, the Government has provided that 1,982 football club fans have provided false data to prevent this social stigma from being taken over.
