Dozens of initiatives across the Basque Country against Macrojudgment 11/13 and in favor of defendants
- The calls have multiplied: the initiatives of the peoples involved have called for mobilizations during the weekend. The majority of Basque trade unions have called for concentrations in the capitals of Hego Euskal Herria for Friday at noon. On 12 September, ERNAI called for mobilisation, and ETXERAT or Sare showed their support for the national demonstration to be held in Bilbao on 14 September.
On 16 September, the trial against 47 Basques begins at the National Central Court, which is held in Madrid. They were working to defend the rights of Basque political prisoners and exiles and to defend the resolution of the conflict. As the date of the trial was known, support groups were set up in the towns and neighbourhoods of the defendants against macro-trial and in favour of the defendants. Since then, various initiatives have been taken, such as popular meals, shelters, bikers, talks, acts or mobilizations in favour of prisoners, among others. The defendants announced a national demonstration on 14 September in Tahrir Square.
Over 40 calls
To strengthen this call, last weekend local initiatives have organised various mobilisations and solidarity gestures between Friday and Sunday. For example, in Arbizu a futsal championship has been organised, a popular meal and a human chain; in Oiartzun a sympathetic marathon of musical groups and a giant mosaic; in Bilbao a concentration of Indautxu and then a dance, a bertso rap or a mural painting; in Vitoria-Gasteiz a “giant wave of solidarity of 2,800 liters of water” will be created.
The majority of trade unions have also called for mobilizations. On Friday at noon, concentrations were held in the capitals of Hego Euskal Herria in the three Basque capitals. ERNAI has called for mobilizations on 12 September in the capitals and in the Basque universities.
Accessions to the demonstration on 14 September
All these agents and initiatives have called for the national demonstration convened by the defendants on 14 September in Bilbao.
