Former PNV politicians in the De Miguel case have a period of ten days to enter prison, according to Eitb. On Thursday morning the Provincial Court of Álava received the official notification of the Spanish Supreme Court ratifying the 2019 ruling. Thus, four former PNV politicians will have to bear the prison sentence: Alfredo de Miguel will have to serve twelve years and four months in jail, Koldo Otxandiano seven years and six months, Xabier Sánchez seven years and one month and Aitor Telleria five years and one month.
Prevarication and bribery, the trafficking of influence, the unfair and abusive use of public goods, the falsification of documents and money laundering have been charged to the former Algerian leaders of the PNV.
Government shift for dismissal of defendants
The defendants have continued to work in public posts to date. De Miguel Hazi has worked at the Public Foundation and Otxandiano in the Technological Park of Álava. In view of this, the Councillor for Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Arantxa Tapia, pointed out that it has "all available documentation" for redundancies. He explained that he was waiting for this firm order to remove former co-workers, as the previous expulsion would be "violation of rights" of both convicted.
The De Miguel case is the largest historical case of corruption in Araba, Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia. She appeared in 2009 when businesswoman Ainhoa Alberdi reported that Alfredo de Miguel and Aitor Telleria had requested a commission of 100,000 euros for awarding their company the works of expansion of the technological park of Miñano. From there, they agreed to a sterile urban operation of EUR 65 million, irregular operations of EUR 16 million and EUR 700,000 in commissions.
