More than 3,000 arrested in protests by the French State, a week after the murder of Nahel
- A week after Nahel's murder by the police, protests spread throughout the French state. The Government has mobilized 45,000 police and limited Internet access in some places.
Demonstrations throughout the French State, incidents, injuries and at least 3,000 people have been arrested one week after the police killed the young Nahel.
The Ministry of the Interior explains that in the protests on Friday night more than 1,300 people were arrested and 79 police officers were injured. However, he stresses that the clashes are lower than those of the previous nights, as more than 700 people were arrested in total.
Response from Macron
45,000 police officers have been appointed by President Emmanuel Macron to reduce his protests and “maintain the Republican order.” She explains that the ongoing violence in the protests is “unjustified” and calls on her parents to control their children. Many minors are reportedly taking part in the protests, as one third of the 1,300 people detained on Friday were minors.
Police warn that access to the Internet will be restricted from Monday 3 July. It is a question of limiting the possibility of communicating what happens, thus reducing the freedom of information.
