Trade unions accuse the Basque Government of disabling the educational strike by raising the minimum services
- The education unions complain that the Basque Government has set up minimum services higher than the previous strikes, which means "a serious violation of the right to strike".
On Monday the Basque Government published the order of minimum services for this Tuesday’s strike in the Basque Country. It has established a minimum cleaning service of 100% and has announced that, among other measures, the catering service will be guaranteed.
In a joint communiqué, the unions ELA, LAB, CCOO, UGT and Steilas have denounced the Ertzaintza decision. The minimum services established for Tuesday’s strike are wider than in previous days of strike, they have underlined. The Basque Government has ensured that it is working with the measures to "guarantee protection and security". Trade unions have considered that this is an "excuse": “It has radically changed the minimum service criteria established so far in strikes and has set minimum services higher than ever under the pretext of ensuring health.”
Willingness to disconvene the strike
The education unions consider that the established services infringe the right to strike and have explained that they are studying the possibility of going to court. The purpose of the order is to unconvene the strike, according to the unions: “Hiding the unfortunate management and neglect of the Department of Education, this is an attempt to make mobilization invisible and to deactivate the strike.”
