The PNV, EH Bildu, PSE-EE and Podemos IU call on the Basque Government to increase the Interprofessional Minimum Wage (SMI) based on the "socioeconomic reality" of Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. The minimum wage of the Spanish State in 2023 has risen from EUR 1,000 to EUR 1,080, but they consider that it should be increased in the CAPV.
The parliamentary agreement states that the increase would benefit more than 50,000 Basque workers. It therefore urges the Basque Government to remain "proactive". It proposes the minimum wage agreed between trade unions and employers "always respecting collective bargaining". No amount is specified in the agreement.
EH Bildu tabled a motion on Monday proposing an increase in the minimum wage to 1,400 euros in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. EH Bildu parliamentarian Arkaitz Rodriguez said that in these territories the €1,080 proposed by the Spanish Government, which is 20% less than necessary, remains "very short". The Member explained that, according to the European Social Charter, the minimum wage must reach 60% of the average wage, and on that basis he proposes an amount of EUR 1,400. He adds that in the CAPV the average wage is 20% higher than in Spain, as the cost of living is also 20% higher.
