According to the Navarro Fund for the Protection of the Natural Environment, Gurelur, in Tolosaldea the clothes used for recycling and reuse have been deposited in two Arbizu pavilions. Gurelur members have explained that “the company Ekotrade is dumping clothes in two Arbizu pavilions.” They have reported that the incident has been reported to the Nature Protection Service of the Civil Guard, Seprona, “to stop these illegal spills and immediately remove tons of clothing dumped in Sakana.”
In the opinion of the complainants, “those responsible for the discharges, in addition to having environmental responsibilities, may also have criminal responsibilities, as with the illegal dumping of recycling and re-use clothing carried out by this company, administrations that contract its services may be scammed.” The representatives of Gurelur added that “the citizens who deliver the clothes are deceived, because they are lied with the purpose and use they are given. The sensitivity of those involved in the delivery of clothing for environmental and social purposes is growing.”
Background
The Arbizu affair is the second time that there has been a dumping of clothing in the Sakana. The former was held in an abandoned pavilion in Ziordia. According to Gurelur, both have been manufactured by the same company, Ekotrade. “With total impunity, tons of clothing are being re-emitted in the Sakana. This Gipuzkoan company, faced with allegations of dumping of Gurelur in Ziordia, undertook to withdraw the tonnes of the pavilions in which the garments were poured, and more than a year has passed and the clothes have been abandoned. A few months ago, Gurelur again denounced what happened in the Department of the Environment and the policy makers have done nothing to solve the problem.”
