After receiving the call, the Basque Government will extend maternity and paternity leave at the CAPV to eighteen weeks. After the end of the year 2024, and after the adoption of the corresponding Decree, it intends to establish an extension in the private sector. Since September 2019, public sector staff have been authorised and now want to join the private sector by the end of next year.
The budgets presented by the Councillor for Equality, Justice and Social Policies, Nerea Melgica, in the Basque Parliament, include an item of 100,000 euros, a measure aimed at improving parental co-responsibility in growth.
Parental leave
Paternity leave has progressively increased to equal maternity leave in recent years: In 2019 the permit was eight weeks, in 2020 twelve weeks and in 2021 sixteen weeks.
