Since Wednesday morning, dozens of Guardian workers have gathered in front of the plant in Laudio, where workers from nearby companies have also joined them in solidarity. The guards say they will shut down the oven on Wednesday and meet to block it. The members of the business committee are inside the factory at the moment.
The 171 workers of Guardian are in the middle of a fight to defend their jobs and this Wednesday’s can be a milestone day, as the American company has declared that it will turn off the furnace of the glass plant, arguing that it is broken.
Thus, the members of the business committee formed by the unions ELA and LAB explain that the company has ordered the oven to be turned off at 8:00 a.m., without even waiting for technicians from Osalan and the Industry Department. According to EiTB.eus, citing government sources, technicians are already inside the plant.

The members of the business committee are already inside the factory. However, they have previously been with the workers, telling them that the Basque Government has not met with them to explain what they have agreed with the Guardian Glass leadership at the last hour on Tuesday.

The Minister of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability, Mikel Jauregi, said that the government will send a team of technicians to "ensure the reliability and safety" of the shutdown. In any case, the unions say that the company has ordered the oven to be turned off without even waiting for the technicians.

The workers in the factory portal have made a first assessment of this agreement: "There has been no agreement with the workers," said Maddalen Muguruza, LAB representative, "there is no process in which there are guarantees, so we remain in the starting position. If the oven is turned off, we don't know what the odds are. We come to plant now, we ask that what is done be shared with the committee, and we will not allow the destruction of 171 jobs in the region."

ELA on Tuesday called for a “precautionary” halt to the furnace shutdown, but the Supreme Court of Justice of the Basque Country has rejected the request.
The LAB, for its part, denounces to the Labor Inspectorate and the Labor Delegation the decision to shut down the oven. The union explained that the interruption of the activity of the furnace would make it "irreversible" and would also lead to the closure of the company and security problems.
