Under the motto “Education under the great entrepreneurs condemns us to misery!” they have called demonstrations at 12:00 in Pamplona (from Antoniuti), San Sebastian (from Aulario de Ibaeta) and Bilbao (from Eliptika Square) and at 11:30 in Vitoria-Gasteiz (from the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca). High school, university and vocational training students from Hego Euskal Herria are called to strike.
They denounce that education is organised according to the interests of big business and that the final educational reforms are a reflection of this, and that the links between companies and universities and vocational training centres are evident. This is summarized by one of the members of the student movement in Gedar’s interview:
“Business intervention is observed both indirectly (impact on practices, masters or research lines) and directly (direct investments made), controlling education by entrepreneurs. Private companies, speculators or banks are unanimously financing university degrees and masters by paying millions of euros, and that is what they are doing to teach them a very concrete content. The lines of research that are launched at the University also do so to force or channel, and it is common for students to investigate directly for companies.”
On the day of the strike, including the services of Inika and SMS, they will also ask young people to criticise and remove the students’ “control platforms”.
Obstacles to political work
The DMA has been organizing school activities for weeks to call a student strike. From the WFD, it has been highlighted that for political work students become “huge barriers” to organize, use spaces or give talks, among others. They point out that they suffer "identification, follow-up and threats to open files", but stress that the days before the strike police repression has risen and that the presence of agents is "totally suffocating". They will also denounce in the mobilizations “the violations of freedom that we have suffered throughout the preparation of this strike (the student who was arrested in propaganda, security pursuits, police presence)”.
The movement influences the need to organize the students and these mobilizations are an opportunity to change the educational situation and achieve better conditions.
