We are on the verge of the new Education Act for the CAV, which has been written in recent months. Since the publication of the first draft, the discrepancy of a large sector of which we form the educational community, which we believe in a powerful public education system, has become apparent.

On 5 November we returned to the streets many citizens and the demand was clear, in favour of the Basque public school and against this new law. We have endless reasons to say no to this educational law; euskaldunization of the students, laicism, their own curriculum... and a tendency to reinforce privatization under the umbrella of the “Basque Public Education Service”.

In many opinion articles the focus of the debate, public school vs ikastolas. This does not reflect the picture of the educational system that will govern this law, the Basque. In this debate, the Church's centres (centres that differ from those of the concerted) have been mentioned very rarely. Do we understand as lateral damage the strengthening of social control of the church?.

As the arguments have been repeated over and over again, I want to relocate the focus to a university system that is outside the scope of this law, where there is also a very worrying trend of privatization.

Anyone should have the opportunity to train themselves in what they dream of, to take steps. Unfortunately, however, the socio-economic situation of each individual is of great importance in the decisions taken later on. Barely a mother's lawyer and an elderly doctor will conduct a vocational training course. 36 years ago, the teacher of pedagogy asked us: “raise your hand if my mother or father had a college degree” were very few who raised their hand. Next, the professor explained that forecasts and socioeconomic level have a great influence on our career, on the choice. He explained to us by way of example that if the same question were to be asked in a centre situated a kilometre (University of Deusto) the result would be different.

All research clearly relates the socioeconomic and cultural index (is) to the level of school failure.

Now let's study what happens to students who finish high school. For some it will be their choice to perform a higher cycle and for others the path to university.

On this path to university, the UPV/EHU will be the first option in the CAPV, but this is the first obstacle. Many students cannot attend the degree they choose themselves because they are limited places. However, if they have economic resources, they will have the second chance to walk the path chosen, as the offer of private universities in Mondragón and Deusto is growing year after year. Someone might say that as a private initiative he has a right to do so, but here we have the second fraud. They are private universities, but they receive millions of euros in grants from the Urkullu government.

A few months ago we learned that Mondragon Unibertsitatea will receive EUR 24 million from the Basque Government for the new building of the Basque Culinary Center. According to Arantxa Tapia, we must place this private initiative promoted with public money in the popular strategy. To that investment that they call a popular strategy, thousands of Basque citizens will not have access, because they cannot pay thousands of euros a year for studying in it.

In the arguments of these universities we have often had to hear that they are “non-profit” organizations. The Clínica Universidad de Navarra (Opus Dei) is also a “non-profit” organization, it draws the accounts. At MU and Deusto University, students must pay more than 6000 euros per year for their studies, to some extent up to 14000 euros. Little with this, and a year ago the PNV-PSE-PP-VOX parties gave their vote to another private university, the EUNEIZ, which the Basconia-Alavés group has launched in September, which will also be well nourished by public money, have requested about 33 million euros to receive funds from the European Union through the Innovaraba project.

We are faced with the same problem we have in the education system, in the health and care system, the Urkullu government does not believe in the public system, this government awards private centers and universities and strengthens the path of privatization, leaving many citizens out.

The highest number of Public School workers, Jokin Bildarratz, became angry in the media the day after the 5 November demonstration and then remembered that 90% of parliament has agreed on the basis of this law. Insufficient advisor argument. Where is the participatory process that he supposedly wanted to do to build a new education law? He ignored the contributions of those of us who are part of the Public School.

These days Mr Bildarratz told us that the strike is “preventive” because we do not yet have the final text. Accepting the foundations of the new law and accepting the preliminary draft, when the road is well drawn (in the wrong direction), what should we expect for the strike? Mr. counsellor, better preventive strikes than exclusionary laws.

Those of us who believe in the school for all and all of us are clear, on 30 November and 14 December we will go out in the street and continue to work until we get a public, own and Basque Basque school.
