The trade unions ELA, LAB, CCOO, ESK and UGT have called strikes at the Social Intervention Service of Álava on 17 and 22 June. They denounce the lockdown of employers in the negotiation of the collective agreement.
Social intervention personnel serve underage children, vulnerable families, women victims of male violence, people in situations of social exclusion, people with mental health problems or addictions. "In short, the most vulnerable groups in society," they explain. It's about 1,000 workers, more than three-quarters of women. They also denounce that they are threatened that tenders will not go ahead without signing an agreement.
They are social service personnel, but they belong to a privatized service. They have been negotiating a collective agreement for a year and a half. They call for the convention to improve working conditions and ensure the purchasing power of all workers in the sector.
They denounce that the employers have lengthened the negotiations by proposing "scarce measures" that do not guarantee purchasing power. They limit the increase of the CPI to 11.5% if the sum of the CPI of the term of the agreement (2021-2024) is higher. The trade unions believe that this means that the collective agreement is going to be reduced and they do not accept it.
In addition to the wage increase associated with the CPI, workers call for a 30-hour reduction in working time, more appropriate conciliation measures, better licensing and adjustment of savings.
Faced with privatization and precariousness, they have reaffirmed themselves in the struggle for decent conditions: "We believe that our work must be accepted, and for this we must achieve improvements that bring stability not only to the sector, but also to a large part of society. That is why we are prepared to negotiate at any time, provided that the purchasing power of the workers is guaranteed, and we will continue to fight against the scant approaches of AISA and the lack of responsibility of the Deputy, the City Council of Vitoria and the Basque Government, owners of the privatized and precarious social services".
