Workers from private homes and community homes in Álava will take two new days of strike today and tomorrow, convened by the unions ELA and LAB, to request a work agreement. The trade unions denounce the blockade of the negotiating table and criticize the attitude of the employers and the Provincial Council of Álava. Demonstrations have been held on Thursday in Plaza Nueva and on Friday in the headquarters of Albertia Campus.
Four years have passed since the start of protests by workers in this area, but they have not received a positive response from the employers. As a result, staff from private homes and community homes continue to be "in a precarious situation", according to the unions. In the calls to apply for the agreement, problems such as long working hours, low wages, high ratios, etc. have been pointed out, and it has been reported that the days that "make workers sick" have become common.
The participants highlighted the importance of "dignified" care delivery to residential users, but their working conditions prevent them from offering quality services or impair their health condition.
