7:30. It rains. Coinciding with the call of the feminist movement of Euskal Herria, there are many people around the entrance of the Old Town of Hondarribia, with colored scarves on the shoulders, to support the paritarian company Jaizkibel. When the fence has been opened to distinguish the public from the parade, we have headed down the street. When we pass the arch of access to Calle Mayor, seeing the number of people going up, “it is noticeable that it is Sunday,” says a girl – among those who argue that “the people” are in favor of the exclusionary Alarde is quite widespread that “strangers” are the ones who animate Jaizkibel.

This year there are no black plastic walls, but those who boycott the Paritarian parade have put in trash bags of the same color. Greet some acquaintances and place them in front of a sidewalk of Calle Mayor: a girl with a garbage bag asks us to take it off, while they take a place from 5 in the morning. He speaks to us and tells us that he also has friends in Jaizkibel, who has come to see them. “As you will understand, this plastic has given me a new impression,” I explain, and we’ve gone further.

The porticos of the City Hall are occupied by political and institutional representatives. A novelty: Xabier Ezeizabarrena, president of the PNV at the General Meetings of Gipuzkoa, is with other institutional representatives of the CAV. Last year, Eider Mendoza, who held that post, also saw Jaizkibel pass, but not in the Gran Vía that has taken the greatest symbolic weight for this conflict. However, in the place where municipal representatives traditionally see the Alarde, in the court of the church, the mayor of Hondarribia has a clear emptiness: before the festivities, Jaizkibel stated that he should change the schedule, answering the questions of a journalist. In the end, he himself has changed the schedule so as not to match the joint company.

We found the site a little bit higher: different people, but the same garbage bags. For five or six seconds, a black block woman has recorded us with her mobile phone to applaud. One of the women behind us dressed in that strange piura is not as friendly as the girl we've talked to before. He has been ruthlessly to us, in a moment he has pushed himself and when an ertzaina has gone by his side he has asked him to “send them out” – the autonomous police officer has gone ahead without paying him the slightest attention. Behar La Sexta, a journalist from the Spanish television network, has approached us to ask him if he wanted to make any kind of statement to this woman who was yelling at us. He has turned his back and from there we have been able to be more reassured.

Jaizkibel goes up Badator Street: This is the most massive parade in history, it has become, according to some, 1,000 people. And compared to last year's troubled atmosphere, the parade involving women as men has had a much warmer welcome. Because many more people have come to show them their support, and because the opposites have also taken a warmer attitude. In fact, last year was a turning point in many ways: after a few years of a calmer parade, the persecution against Jaizkibel was narrowed down in a step, which led to the public debate being extended throughout the year rather than running out in September, until a process of dialogue between the parties began – although in that process Jenny Pierce, who has mediated, said that in August the file was broken down.

After arriving at the Plaza de Armas, the joint company has come down again. Cheerful faces, some members of the company have been filled with excitement, we have seen some tear. “They will never get it!” says the woman behind us. But the applause and the spirits of Jaizkibel are heard more.

The Alarde doesn't just pass through the Great Way

When the most multitudinous company of this alarde has left the Old Part, we have gone to the bridge to go from the wall to the Plaza de Toros. The bridge is high and good pictures can be taken at the company's pace. Here's a novelty: Various agents of the Ertzaintza. What for? Well, as we suspect, to remove the banners hanging over this bridge over recent years with messages in favour of Jaizkibel.

This is a banner that has been opened to the public. “We’re going to do it, we’re about to do it, Gora Jaizkibel!” he says. The Ertzaines have rushed to withdraw it. It is a mark that the police forces that for years have not withdrawn prohibited black plastics show to what extent the neutral aspect that some intend to give in this conflict is positioned. And by whom.

But there are also other pictures this morning. For example, that of the citizens who applaud Jaizkibel with total normality outside the Old Party. Until they reach the hermitage of Santa Maria and break the lines, many neighbors see the parade every year, without any strange incident. The Gran Vía is the last bastion of the discriminatory Alarde and they work throughout the year to prepare the performance that will take place there. And as a journalist, I doubt that I was right with the focus, as in this very chronicle the events of the Gran Vía also prevail. Despite what happens on Sunday afternoon in the Casco Viejo, the egalitarian parade will normally walk the rest of the streets of the town. And that means that Hondarribitarras have already accepted, if not by word, implicitly, that Alarde Day women also parade as soldiers. It has been 23 years since many citizens have not known Alarde another day.

A politician from the time of the Transition stated that what is normal on the street should also be normal in the institutions. The institutions of Hondarribia, Gipuzkoa and the CAPV could also apply this principle to their activity: the mutation that they have shown to the joint company for years is significant, except in the time of Bildu at the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, which has given the exclusive Alarde wings. And to raise this issue as a mere “problem of coexistence”, as the Representative does, addressing a fundamental problem, which is at stake the equality between women and men.

It will be 8 September and there will be 365 days for these organisations to change their perspective on this issue. A year in which the supporters of the Egalitarian Alarde live the party with less tension does not change everything else: one company continues to parade apart from the others, because women also participate. And if it's considered normal, it sets a bad precedent, not only in Hondarribia, but also in the rest of the areas that govern these institutions.
