Although the government agreement lowers the targets for Euskera, Ollo says it is “more ambitious than the previous one”
- The Minister for Coexistence, Foreign Action and the Basque Country, Ana Ollo, has said so in the Foral Parliament, although three points have been deleted in the agreed programme and the other eight have remained unchanged.
Looking ahead to the next four years, in the committee of presentation of the Report and the policies to be followed by the Council of Coexistence, Foreign Action and Euskera of the Government of Navarra, the counselor Ana Ollo said that “as for the language, those who say that the new programmatic agreement is less ambitious than that of 2019 are mistaken.”
However, given the agreed measures, the reality is very different, as the Basque Industry Council denounced in August following the publication of the report. Because of the eleven measures that the agreement of the previous legislature took on the Basque country, three have been eliminated, and the rest has remained the same. However, Ollo says that the previous program “was much more general” and that those who say otherwise “have not analyzed it in depth”.
As a sign of this, he points out that the strategic plan that Euskarabidea will promote is favorable to the end of zoning. But it clarifies that it is not possible to implement this desire, because today “there is no parliamentary majority”, because UPN, PSN, PP and VOX are against.
The Counsellor has recognized within the Foral Government “the discrepancies that have already been made public”. Implicitly referring to the PSN, he recalls that “the European institutions have been asking Navarra for years to advance in respect for the Basque Country” and that at the state level the use of co-operative languages, such as the Basque Country, in public institutions has just been approved.
Measures to promote Euskera
In the same vein, Ana Ollo requests that linguistic policy “move away from partisan debate” and start from “basic consensus”. In this regard, he has promised that the Government will continue models A and D in Secondary Education in all centers that already have these models in Primary Education, as in the case of Tafalla or Lodosa.
He has also announced that the Basque Country will be more relevant “on the merits to be established in the areas of work in the public administration” and that at the end of the legislature the Basque Country will be valued in 90% of these positions, especially in Osasunbidea.
