The Itsas Enara Ornithological Association and the Association of Naturalists Haritzalde have denounced that, at the beginning of the works, large oak trees have been cut from about 80 years old. In addition to the large oak trees, other types of trees have been felled: cherry trees, pots, strawberries... In addition, the associations have denounced that the felling of trees has taken place at the height of animal breeding.
In a statement, they stressed that, despite the declaration of a climate emergency, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa "continues to strengthen the use of cars and road design to the detriment of natural spaces". The associations have regretted that, instead of protecting biodiversity, high-value, irreplaceable robles have been torn down, and the rich life of this biotope, including endangered species of fauna, such as the grey liron and the small peak. Moreover, they have stressed the importance of the area of Antondegi, where the trees have been cut, in the green belt of Donostia which they have long been claiming. Against this, they have indicated that the new road they have begun to build is in the opposite direction, making it difficult to connect Lau Haizeta and Antondegi naturally, and deteriorating the Donostia green belt.
The Haritzalde and Itsas Enara associations have denounced that a massacre has taken place, but that steps of fauna can still be taken on the new road to alleviate the problem of communication between Antondegi and Lau Haizeta. They indicate that the proposal has already been made to the Member and that it is in their power to correct another serious error in the draft.
They have denounced that in recent years more and more projects are jeopardising the integrity and quality of the San Sebastian green belt and that the Administration is promoting far from paralysing them. The protesters were consistent with the climate emergency declaration and called to protect the green belt of Donostia-San Sebastián.
The update of the Navarra Energy Plan goes unnoticed. The Government of Navarre made this public and, at the end of the period for the submission of claims, no government official has explained to us what their proposals are to the citizens.
