"The purpose of this Order is to establish the procedure for setting the maximum sales measure for medical devices necessary to protect the health of the population against COVID-19," the BOE Order states. These products include face masks, gloves and antiseptic gels.
Prices for these products have soared since the outbreak of the health crisis and in recent weeks a number of pharmaceutical or consumer protection organisations have called for price restrictions. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has reported that masks, which were sold for 60 cents before the crisis, have been sold for between 15 and 20 euros.
The Interministerial Committee on Prices for Medicinal Products shall meet electronically within two days. The Commission is composed of representatives of the National Health and Pharmacy System, the Autonomous Communities and the various ministries. In addition to the maximum price for basic medical devices, other decisions will be taken.
For example, it will specify the information to be provided by the label of each product. On this proposal, the government will set maximum prices with a new order published in the BOE.
