The political position of young people in the last twenty years has been the subject of study in The Economist. Men between the ages of 18 and 29 are more conservative than women.
The Economist has taken advantage of data from the European Social Survey, the American General Social Survey and the Korean Social Survey and brought to light the fact that young people between the ages of 18 and 29 have undergone change in the last twenty years. Men are in more conservative positions, women are more liberal. According to the data, if twenty years ago there was no obvious gender inequality, today the gap is 25 percentage points among young people considered liberal. Young men are closer to the claim that “women’s rights have gone too far” than older men.
For The Economists, academic performance is responsible for the gap. The study shows that in the European Union, 46% of young women acquire a university degree, compared to 35% of men, an inequality that has doubled since 2002. Also, in rich countries, 28 per cent of boys do not acquire a basic level of reading compared to 18 per cent of girls.
Another important variable is the progress made in gender equality, says The Economist. Some women have achieved "successful careers" by mitigating gender inequalities. This has created a reaction in men and women are accused of having lost their "relative status".
The Diario Socialista has put on the table the social clash that this type of data can generate towards the future. In fact, parties such as Germany’s FyD or Portugal’s Chega have capitalized on men’s discontent and are spreading as reactionary waves across Europe, fueling social fragmentation and even polarizing public opinion. In addition, he pointed out that this will condition the public debate to the point where the Socialist Journal becomes totally irrational and devoid of content.
